More than 30 years ago she started her career all over the world’s most famous stages. Her beginnings in Cadiz, her birthplace, are an important part of her, and that first period was influenced by the teaching of her mother, Concha Baras.

She has also received training from great dancers, out of which we can highlight Ciro, Manolete, El Güito and Dania Gómez.

In 1998 she formed her own ballet: Ballet Flamenco Sara Baras. To date she has presented thirteen shows, all choreographed by herself:

Over 4000 performances with her ballet have allowed her to visit the best theaters in the world, becoming one of the most recognized ambassadors of our culture.

It is important to highlight the success and acceptance that her shows have had from the audience, which has allowed her to perform long seasons in cities like Madrid, Barcelona, London and Paris, mainly. At the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées in Paris -102 years old- she has presented 10 one month-long shows, hanging the sold-out sign in every performance. She is the artist that has performed the most times (more than 200) at this emblematic theater, congregating more than 500 thousand spectators (from the 20th of December until the 11th of January 2017 she will be back performing her eleventh season there). At the Sadler ́s Wells Theater in London she has presented 8 one month-long shows, alternating with performances at the Royal Albert Hall. In Barcelona she has presented 10 two and a half month-long shows, a total of 70 performances each season, being also the first private dance company that is included in Gran Teatre del Liceu of Barcelona’s programme, with “Carmen”. She has presented shows in Madrid ten times at the most important theaters in the city: Teatro Apolo, Teatro Coliseum, Teatro Calderón, Teatro Lope de Vega y Teatro Compact Gran Vía. During these ten seasons she has done more than 1000 performances with a mean of a million spectators. Apart from the Madrid seasons she has participated in many festivals like “Veranos de la Villa”, “Suma Madrid” or “Creadoras” and has performed in numerous occasions at the Teatro Real de Madrid and the Teatro de La Zarzuela.

According to the Sociedad General de Autores’ anual reports, her creations are the most seen dance shows as well as the ones with the highest revenue every year.

She has shared the stage with artists such as Paco de Lucía, with whom she has done so numerous times; Raphael, in collaborations on TV and theater; Chavela Vargas, with whom she went on a tour around very important stages in the world (Luna Park in Buenos Aires, Teatro Juárez de Guanajuato in México, Palau de la Música in Barcelona, Festival de Río Loco in Toulouse, Gran Teatro Falla de Cádiz, highlighting the two performances tribute to Federico García Lorca at Huerta de San Vicente, Lorca’s birthplace); Alejandro Sanz, with whom she has participated as a guest artist in some of his concerts; Ainoha Arteta and Isabel Rey, that united opera and flamenco in amazing shows, as an introduction to “Baras-Carreras”, where she performed alongside the prestigious tenor Josep Carreras all over the world, highlighting the gala that took place at the Royal Albert Hall in Londres to benefit Fundación Josep Carreras in December 2008. The worked collaborations with Niña Pastori, Pitingo, Diego “ El Cigala” or Tim Ries ( saxofonista de los Rollings Stones), where her feet were recorded as a solo instrument.

She created the music label “Saba Danza” to record the “Juana la Loca” soundtrack.

She has also filmed live DVDs of the shows Mariana Pineda” at the Teatro Calderóin Madrid; Sueños” at the Gran Teatro Falla in Cádiz; Sabores” at the Apolo in Madrid; Juana La Loca” at the Sabatini Gardens of the Royal Palace in Madrid and “La Pepa” at the Teatro Compact, also in Madrid. 

She co-edited with photographer Peter Müller the photo-book “Sueñosthat captures moments of the 2005 tour and images that reflect some parts of the Quijote due to 500th anniversary. With photographer Jose Luis Álvarez she has launched a collection of books about her shows Carmen” and “Juana La Loca.

She participated in the film “Flamenco Women” by Mike Figgis, “Escuela de Seducción” by Javier Balaguer, “Iberia” “Flamenco Flamenco” and “La Jota” by Carlos Saura, “El sueño de Eleanor” by Lluís DanesShe was a TV host in Algo más que Flamenco” at TVE.

En el ámbito solidario, ha colaborado bailando y prestando su imagen en numerosas ocasiones en la Lucha contra el Cáncer; para la Fundación Vicente Ferrer, destacando la actuación que realizó en el Gran teatro del Liceu de Barcelona.

Ha participado en la Campaña 2006 “Made in Green” e Invest for Children 2007.

Ha amadrinado el Proyecto Solidario 2007 y 2008 “Sueños” para Aldeas Infantiles cediendo también su imagen a Mattel para la comercialización de la Barbie España a favor de Aldeas Infantiles y haciéndolos participes de los ingresos por la venta de las muñecas.

Protagoniza la Campaña RENFE 2008 “un tren de vida”, la Campaña por los derechos humanos 2008 “El sueño de E. Roosvelt “, UNICEF – Proyecto Infancia 2008.

Es madrina de honor de la Fundación Síndrome de Down Madrid con la que ha realizado numerosas colaboraciones recaudando fondos y realizado una importante labor didáctica, en las temporadas que realiza en Madrid imparte clases de danza durante un periodo aproximado de un mes a alumnos de la Fundación Síndrome de Down de Madrid con los que comparte escenario en una gala benéfica a favor de la Fundación, destacan las actuaciones realizadas junto a miembros de la Fundación que participan en el espectáculo “Mariana Pineda” en el Teatro Calderón en 2003, en el espectáculo “Carmen” en el teatro Lope de Vega en 2006 y en el espectáculo “La Pepa” en el teatro Compact Gran Vía en el 2013.

Es madrina de honor de la Fundación “Mi princesa Rett” con la que colabora activamente recaudando fondos destinados a la obtención de becas para tratamientos terapéuticos y para el estudio del diagnóstico precoz del Síndrome de Rett, prestando también su imagen para la difusión de esta terrible enfermedad.
